OnePlus partners with DxO to optimize OnePlus 5 camera quality
OnePlus announces that it is partnering with DxO to optimize the quality of the camera in the OnePlus 5. It is not yet known which sensor and lens the new smartphone will receive. It is also unclear exactly what role DxO will play.
In the announcement, OnePlus says that the quality of the camera in its smartphones has improved with the introduction of each new model and the company wants to continue that trend with the OnePlus 5. What the collaboration entails in concrete terms is not disclosed.
The quality of smartphone cameras is largely dependent on software algorithms. Sensors in smartphones are small, as are the lenses used. With good algorithms, lens errors can be corrected and image noise can be suppressed.
DxO has a lot of expertise in that area because it makes its own software to develop raw files. In addition, the company is known for its DxOMark website, on which it reviews cameras, including those of smartphones. In 2015, DxO released a separate camera module for the iPhone. This DxO One has a 1″ sensor, which is a lot larger than the camera sensors of smartphones.
OnePlus confirmed at the beginning of this month that the OnePlus 5 will be released this summer. A photo has also appeared online showing a prototype with a dual camera, but it is not certain that the device will actually get two cameras on the back.
