OnePlus Introduces Own OxygenOS ROM February 12th
Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus will introduce its OxygenOS on February 12. The own Android ROM should mainly provide simple software, without unnecessary functionality. With this, Cyanogen may disappear from the OnePlus.
Details about OxygenOS are not yet known, OnePlus will reveal it on February 12. The company does state that the ROM is free to modify and contains no bloatware, as well as unnecessary functionality, which indicates a relatively bare Android environment. At the beginning of January, OnePlus already released an alpha version of Android 5.0 for its One smartphone, but it was a completely unmodified version of Android. With OxygenOS, OnePlus will have added its own features.
The introduction probably means that Cyanogen, the most popular custom rom for Android, will disappear from the OnePlus One smartphone. The companies behind OnePlus and Cyanogen have been at odds with each other for some time. In India, Cyanogen went into business exclusively with the Indian smartphone manufacturer Micromax and with this the customrom maker is violating an agreement with OnePlus, according to the claim. OnePlus had to develop its own Android version for the Indian market.
Cyanogen, in turn, wants to indemnify its ROM from Google services and, possibly for this reason, received an investment from Microsoft, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
