OnePlus doubled its turnover in 2017
The Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has announced that it has doubled its turnover in 2017. This amounted to 1.4 billion dollars, converted about 1.14 billion euros.
OnePlus CEO and founder Pete Lau told the British newspaper The Telegraph that this 2017 turnover doubling was accompanied by “healthy profits”, but he did not say how high the profits were in the past year.
The manufacturer states that, among other things, the introduction of the OnePlus 5 and 5T in 2017 contributed to the increase in sales. According to OnePlus, these were the fastest-selling phones since their release in June and November respectively last year. The company says it expected to sell 30,000 phones in Europe, but that grew to 1.5 million.
OnePlus was founded at the end of 2013 and in the first year the turnover reached 300 million dollars. After that, the company stopped publishing sales and profit figures. Lau says he has now done so, so that customers gain more trust in the brand through this transparency. He wants to radiate that OnePlus is a healthy company.
According to Lau, the announcement of the annual turnover has nothing to do with winning the trust of American parties for the sale of OnePlus phones. He indicated that his company is currently in talks with mobile providers in the US, among others.
Last week, Huawei expressed its frustrations with American telecom providers, because they reportedly do not want to cooperate with agreements to sell new smartphones in the United States. On Sunday it was announced that the US government is working on a bill that should make it impossible to use telecom equipment from Huawei or ZTE.
