OnePlus delays Android 9 upgrade for OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T
OnePlus needs “more time” to upgrade the OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and 5T to Android 9. That is what the company president says. It is not yet clear when the devices will receive the new Android version, but that may be postponed to next year.
According to GizmoChina, OnePlus director Pete Lau says in a response to Weibo that the company needs more time to provide the older devices with software based on Android 9. He does not say how long the delay will last, but it was previously stated that the devices would receive the upgrade this year.
Lau also clarifies that the OnePlus 6T will be equipped with OxygenOS 9 when it comes out on November 6. That is no surprise, because the manufacturer already released that version of its operating system based on Android 9 in September for the OnePlus 6.
In July, OnePlus announced that the OnePlus 3 and 3T will receive the upgrade to Android 9. Earlier, the manufacturer said that the 2016 phones would not receive any new versions of the operating system after the upgrade to Android 8.
