OnePlus confirms that OnePlus 5 has Snapdragon 835-soc
The OnePlus 5 smartphone gets the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-soc. The director of the smartphone maker has confirmed this. The choice for that soc was obvious, because OnePlus invariably opts for the latest high-end Snapdragon.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau gives no detail except the choice for the soc. Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 835 in January. The soc contains four Qualcomm-customized A73 cores, which the company calls Kryo 280, supplemented by four economical semi-custom A53 cores. The soc includes a Snapdragon X16 Gigabit LTE modem and support for 802.11ad, bluetooth 5.0 and Quick Charge 4.0.
Lau also talks about optimizing OxygenOS for the new smartphone. For example, the software will prioritize apps that the user launches a lot and give less priority to apps that the user opens little. This should benefit the flexibility of the software in the long run. Huawei has used the same technology since Emui 5.0 on the Mate 9.
The manufacturer has started to spread information about the OnePlus 5 to draw attention to the upcoming device. OnePlus confirmed at the beginning of this month that the OnePlus 5 will be released this summer. Earlier rumors spoke that the device would be more expensive than the 439 euros that the manufacturer asks for the most recent phone, the OnePlus 3T, due to the components used.
