OnePlus confirms limiting performance of popular apps on OnePlus 9 and Pro
OnePlus confirms that it is throttling the performance of some apps on the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. The manufacturer restricts the operation of many popular apps, including the Chrome browser, so that the phone can function better. Anandtech concluded this earlier on the basis of its own tests.
OnePlus confirms throttling to XDA. The company says that after the release of the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro, it received feedback from users about optimizing the battery life and the heat of the devices. “Based on that feedback, our research team has spent the last few months working on ways to optimize device performance when using the most popular apps like Chrome.” The company says it does this by ‘linking the apps processor requirements to the most appropriate power consumption’.
The phone manufacturer admits that this will reduce the performance of some devices in benchmark programs. The company is responding to messages from Anandtech. Earlier this week, the site wrote about the throttling of the apps, partly because the site found code that indicated that processor cores are not used in all apps. According to Anandtech, this would happen with popular apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube and Office, but also with OnePlus’ own apps.
