OnePlus has announced that its upcoming devices will all receive 5G support. This makes smartphones more expensive than 4G models, says CEO Pete Lau. The cheapest model that OnePlus sells currently costs 599 euros.

OnePlus reports in a press release that all smartphones in the upcoming series support 5g. How many devices there will be and other details have not been announced, but according to rumors, OnePlus will come with three models, including a OnePlus 8 ‘Lite’ with MediaTek soc.

Pete Lau, the CEO and co-founder of OnePlus, says in an interview with CNet that 5G support will make the new models more expensive than 4G smartphones. According to a rumor, the Lite version would cost about £400, or about 460 euros.

It is not certain whether the CEO’s ruling means that all OnePlus phones will become more expensive. If so, the alleged Lite version would be more expensive than 599 euros. However, OnePlus may be able to save in other areas, for example by using the MediaTek soc.

OnePlus entered the market in 2014 with its 269 euro OnePlus One that was only for sale by invitation. In the years that followed, the manufacturer kept increasing prices. The OnePlus 6 from 2018 cost 519 euros, the OnePlus 6T and 7 had a starting price of 559 euros and the 7T currently costs 599 euros.
