OnePlus has started distributing an update that allows multi-device connectivity on the Buds Pro earbuds. The earbuds came out in September and OnePlus has been promising the update ever since.

OnePlus calls the feature Dual Connection and says it is in firmware version 531. Users of a OnePlus phone can turn the function on in the settings. Users of other Android devices must use the HeyMelody app to activate the feature.

When the feature is on, users can pair the earbuds with two devices at the same time. The Buds Pro play audio from the device that is playing media. It’s still unclear whether the Buds Pro will pick up audio from a phone’s voice calls when a user is listening to audio from another device.

The Buds Pro came out in August. The earphones have 11mm drivers and three microphones for active noise cancellation. OnePlus calls its version ‘smart adaptive noise cancellation’ because the microphones listen to the environment and then automatically adjust the noise reduction with counter noise. That counter-noise can be 15 to 40dB.
