“OnePlus 6T does not have a 3.5mm jack due to space fingerprint scanner behind screen”
OnePlus director Pete Lau states that the upcoming OnePlus 6T smartphone does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, among other things, because the manufacturer wanted to make way for the fingerprint scanner. This is located behind the screen of the new smartphone.
According to Lau, integrating the fingerprint scanner behind the screen requires more space at the bottom of the OnePlus 6T, he reports during an interview with Cnet. As a result, there would be no more room for the 3.5mm connection. Lau calls this one of the “hardest decisions” he had to make.
Another reason for the omission of the headphone jack is OnePlus’ finding that in a user survey within the ‘OnePlus community’ 59 percent of the respondents indicated that they use wireless bluetooth earphones or headphones. The step to remove the analog audio port is striking, because until six months ago, the smartphone manufacturer said that a large majority of users appreciated the presence of a 3.5 mm jack and that it would therefore remain .
It was already clear that the OnePlus 6T will have a fingerprint scanner behind the screen, in contrast to the OnePlus 6, where the scanner is on the back. It was also clear earlier that the 3.5mm jack will disappear. OnePlus will probably present the 6T on October 17; this date appeared on a screenshot from the manufacturer last month. Renders of the phone have also appeared before.
