OnePlus 6 gets glass back
OnePlus switches from metal to glass for the design of the back of its new smartphone. The OnePlus 6 will have five layers of coating, while many other smartphones will have three, according to the manufacturer.
According to OnePlus, the glass at the back has several advantages. For example, it should give users a ‘premium feeling’ and ‘idea of value’, while conveying a ‘transparent, clear and pure feeling’. The glass will also be slightly convex, in the same way as was the case with the back of the OnePlus 5 and 3.
Virtually every smartphone maker has switched to glass for the back of smartphones in recent years. The breakable material appeared on the Samsung Galaxy S6 in 2015, and last year the use of glass made a return in the iPhone 8, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro , the LG G6, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and HTC U11. Many manufacturers cite the ‘premium feeling’ as the reason for the switch. In addition, glass makes wireless charging possible, where this is not possible with metal. There are also disadvantages for users. Many forms of glass are smooth and, moreover, it often breaks when dropped, which makes a case almost necessary for many users.
The OnePlus 6 will be the second phone from the Chinese manufacturer with a glass back after the OnePlus X from 2015. The manufacturer said a few weeks ago that the OnePlus 6 is coming, but no release date has been announced yet. The manufacturer has also released some specs. The soc is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, the storage is up to 256GB and the screen has a notch at the top.
