OmniVision presents a camera module containing a 1/36″ sensor with dimensions of 0.575×0.575mm and a resolution of 200×200 pixels. The OV6948 sensor is the smallest image sensor commercially available.

OmniVision puts the tiny image sensor in its OVM6948 CameraCubeChip. That is a ready-made camera module with dimensions of 0.65×0.65×1.158mm. That module has an angle of view of 120 degrees and can focus at a distance of 3 to 30 mm. The module captures up to 30 images per second with a resolution of 200×200 pixels. The consumption is 25mW.

OmniVision was awarded a Guinness World Record for the small sensor earlier this year. The chip is designed for endoscopes and can be used in an endoscope with a diameter of 1mm. According to the manufacturer, it is the only sensor of this size that uses BSI technology.
