OM is suing men for computer intrusion for fraud with digital receipts
The Public Prosecution Service has charged two men with various crimes, including computer trespassing. The men are suspected of having exchanged wholesale vouchers for digital gift vouchers from online stores.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, it concerns two men aged 23 and 20, both of whom come from The Hague. They would have illegally created vouchers in the systems of a wholesaler. These were supposed to end up in Christmas packages and could be exchanged for digital gift vouchers. The men obtained these coupons with the vouchers and received them via email. The case came to light when several people were unable to redeem the vouchers from their Christmas packages, according to the Public Prosecution Service.
In total, the men would have ordered 1,554 vouchers, which together had a value of around 100,000 euros. They are suspected of computer breaches, the destruction of computer data and theft. The penalty requirement amounts to 150 and 120 hours of community service. In addition, the Public Prosecution Service demands suspended prison terms of two months and one month respectively for the 23-year-old and the 20-year-old. This is only imposed if they make a new mistake in a period of three years.
