Olympus provides E-M10 Mark III system camera with 4k movie function
Olympus has announced the third generation of its OM-D E-M10 system camera. Like its predecessor, the new entry-level model has a 16-megapixel sensor in the 4/3 “format, but will receive a better image processor and therefore also a 4k film function.
The movie function offers frame rates of 30, 25 and 24 fps at 4k resolution. When shooting, the maximum speed is 8.6fps; that’s pretty much the same as its predecessor, which took 8.5 photos per second. The autofocus system has been upgraded, however, and now has 121 points. With the E-M10 Mark II there were 81.
Olympus has also adapted the housing, the control buttons have been made somewhat larger and the handgrip has been given a new design. In addition, the Auto mode has received improvements. It should be able to recognize more scenes and subjects. The camera has WiFi and can be controlled remotely via an app.
The electronic OLED viewfinder with 2.36 million pixels and the tilting 3″ LCD have remained the same. The five-axis mechanism for image stabilization of the sensor is also present again. When filming, this can still be combined with digital stabilization, also with the 4k function.
Olympus will release the OM-D E-M10 Mark III at the end of September. The separate housing costs 650 euros and a kit including the compact 14-42mm EZ zoom lens will cost 800 euros.
