Olympus Pen E-PL8 System Camera Photos Appear Online
Olympus will probably soon come with a new camera in the Pen series. The E-PL8 can be seen in photos that have appeared online. The housing is presumably equipped with artificial leather, just like the Pen-F that Olympus introduced earlier this year.
The E-PL cameras are the entry-level models in the Pen series from Olympus. The E-PL8 will be the successor of the E-PL7. Specifications are not yet known, but the device can be seen from almost all angles on three photos published by digicam info.
What is striking is that the housing is covered with a black material; presumably artificial leather. This gives the camera a retro touch, something that Olympus applied to a greater extent with the Pen-F, which was introduced in January. That was the first high-end model in the Pen series, with an electronic viewfinder. Such an EVF is missing from the entry-level models and the E-PL8 also does not get a viewfinder. It can be seen that the camera will have a tilting screen.
The cameras in the Olympus Pen series use a micro-four-thirds sensor. In the E-PL7, that is a chip with 16 megapixels. The new model may receive a 20-megapixel chip, just like recent MFT cameras such as the Panasonic GX8 and Olympus Pen-F.
