Mac computers prior to 2012 and new Mac systems with outdated Boot Camp software may experience issues when upgrading from Windows 10 to the May 2019 Update. Microsoft warns about this.

According to Microsoft, anyone who has a Mac computer from before 2012 and is running Windows 10 via Boot Camp will receive the message that updating is not successful when upgrading to version 1903, or the May 2019 Update. More precisely, the notification will tell you that the PC does not have the correct Mac HAL driver.

If machaldriver.sys has an earlier date than September 24, 2011, the upgrade will not work. The problem affects not only Macs older than 2012 but also new Mac systems with older Boot Camp versions or Windows Support Software versions. After updating that software, an upgrade could be successful, according to Microsoft. The company is working on a solution that is expected to be available by the end of July.

Mac users running Windows through Parallels are unlikely to be affected by the issues.
