Oculus tests Facebook news feed in Samsung Gear VR tab

Facebook subsidiary Oculus has started a test to display Facebook’s news feed in virtual reality. This is done with a tab in Oculus Home, the software on Samsung’s virtual reality headset.

A small number of users will be given the option to see the news feed in a tab as a test, UploadVR writes based on information from Oculus. In addition to the news overview, this concerns DMs, notifications and other elements of the Facebook app.

It seems that the interface of the social network has not yet been adapted to vr. It is probably a 2D interface without elements of virtual reality. It is the first time that the full Facebook news feed will be shown in virtual reality.

Oculus previously put 360-degree videos from Facebook in the Oculus Home app for the Gear VR. Oculus can do that because it makes the software for Samsung’s VR headset. The South Korean smartphone maker provides the hardware and compatible smartphones.
