The PC will continue to lead the virtual reality industry for the next decade, Oculus believes. With the Rift, Facebook’s subsidiary has a VR headset that works with a PC, but will soon release a standalone VR headset.

During a presentation at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, an Oculus executive said his company will continue to invest in VR hardware that works with PCs. “I want to be very clear,” Jason Rubin says according to RoadToVR. “The PC is critical to the VR industry. We think the PC will continue to lead the industry for the next decade. There is so much more than we can do with VR and the PC is where we will find out.” Rubin did not mention what will happen after those ten years.

Oculus released the Rift two years ago. The company has not yet announced a successor for the VR headset and previously said that a successor will appear next year at the earliest. Despite the support for PC, Oculus will offer VR products in all current categories. On PC this happens with the Rift headset and games, on mobile Oculus makes the software for the Samsung Gear VR and the company will soon release its first standalone headset with the Oculus Go.
