‘Oculus is working on motion controller to complement Rift headset’

Oculus is said to be planning to create motion controllers intended to complement the Rift, the company’s virtual reality goggles. With such a controller in hand, for example, users can manipulate virtual objects through hand movements.

This is reported by Cnet citing sources within the industry. Oculus has been quietly developing motion controller for the Rift headset for a while now. A spokesperson for the Facebook-acquired company declined to confirm Cnet’s reporting. It is therefore not yet clear what exactly Oculus is planning.

With devices that register the user’s movement, Oculus probably wants to improve the virtual reality experience. By making arm and hand movements, the user could manipulate objects in the virtual world, something that could be used for games, for example. Cnet notes that several companies are already developing third party motion controllers for the Rift headset.

Oculus has not yet released its VR glasses for the consumer market. A second test version has already been published for developers. In addition, the company is looking for partners to release VR glasses; details recently emerged of a suspected headset being developed by Oculus and Samsung.
