Oculus denies that it has anything to do with the delay of the Android 5.0 update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. There were earlier rumors that Samsung cannot release the update yet because the software does not yet work with the Gear VR, for which Oculus develop software.

John Carmack, who works as a CTO at Oculus, suggested in a Twitter post that rumors of an Oculus-induced delay in the rollout are false. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 users have been waiting for the Android 5.0 update for some time now. The rollout has already started for the predecessor, the Galaxy Note 3.

Despite the tweet, it is not clear why the update has not yet appeared. Initially, it was rumored that Samsung has not yet been able to roll out the Android 5.0 update for the Galaxy Note 4 due to compatibility issues with the virtual reality glasses Gear VR: Oculus would still have to modify the kernel to get the software working with the accessory, but according to Carmack that is not true.

Samsung has already started rolling out Android 5.0 for the Galaxy S5. The company is now also working on bringing the software to owners of the Galaxy S4. Because it is a phased rollout, it may take a while before the new Android version is available to everyone.
