Oculus Adds ‘Hey Facebook’ Voice Command to Quest Headsets
Oculus will allow users to start voice control on their VR headsets in the Quest line with the command ‘Hey Facebook’. Facebook’s Portal displays will also have this option.
Oculus kicks off this week with the addition of the “Hey Facebook” command for the Quest 2, with other Quest headsets to follow later. It is an opt-in function: users can continue to use voice control even if they do not set the wake word and the Facebook command can also be turned off again.
Once set up, users can use voice commands such as “Hey Facebook, take a screenshot,” Oculus describes. The start word only works when the microphone is on and the headset is active, i.e. not in sleep mode or turned off. It’s another step in Facebook integration for Oculus headsets. Last year, the company announced a required Facebook login for the Quest 2 and upcoming Oculus headsets.
Facebook has more plans for the “Hey Facebook” wake word. The company has added this command to its Portal displays, The Verge found based on its support page. The Portal devices already had a ‘Hey Portal’ wake word.
