NXP invests 20 million euros in new machines for its factory in Nijmegen. The expansion is necessary to be able to continue to meet the growing demand for chips for cars, partly due to the rise of the autonomous driving car.

According to De Gelderlander, NXP will purchase eight new machines for its factory in Nijmegen. These are machines that are made to order and that will start working in the autumn of 2019. Its operation will create ten to twenty new jobs.

According to the director of the factory, Jeroen Lotgering, NXP is currently unable to meet the demand for car chips. Enlargement should ensure that this will change.

The factory in Nijmegen specializes in chips for cars, in particular for in-vehicle networking such as can and lin. In addition, the company makes chips for in-car infotainment, security and advanced driver assistance systems for autonomous driving and parking.

More than two thousand people work at NXP in Nijmegen and, according to De Gelderlander, the company produced 14.5 billion chips last year. In 2017, NXP already invested 12 million euros in the factory in Nijmegen.
