Nvidia’s DLSS will work with DirectX and Steam Proton on Linux from September
In September, it will be possible to play 11 and 12 games on Linux DirectX using Nvidia’s Deep Learning Supersampling technique. That works in combination with Steam Proton. It was already possible to use DLSS on Linux with games that use the Vulkan api.
According to Nvidia, dozens of DirectX 11 and 12 games will be playable on Linux via Steam Proton with DLSS starting next month. The GPU maker mentions some examples, such as Control, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding and F1 2020. There is no complete list of supported games, but according to Nvidia’s words, it concerns many more games.
DLSS support for DirectX games is coming to Linux via Steam Proton; Valve’s open source tool that lets you play thousands of Windows games on Linux. Since June it has been possible to use DLSS in this way in combination with Linux and games that use the Vulkan API. Nvidia will have to release a driver update for Linux to enable the combination of DirectX and DLSS as well. It is not yet known when that update will be released in September.
Nvidia is also announcing a series of games that will receive support for DLSS and RTX ray tracing at launch. That includes Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, Battlefield 2042 and the remake of Myst. Furthermore, Nvidia announces that the PC version of Chivalry 2 will receive an update that adds DLSS “in the future”.
