Nvidia will release GTX 1080 Ti next week and make GTX 1080 cheaper
Nvidia announced the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti at its own event at the Game Developer Conference. Like the Titan X, the video card is based on the GP102 GPU, but has higher clock speeds and 1GB less vram. The suggested retail price of the GTX 1080 is going down.
The specifications of the GTX 1080 Ti are largely the same as those of the GeForce Titan X. The video card is based on the GP102 GPU, has 3584 cudacores and a TDP of 250 watts. Nvidia has not disclosed the base clock speed of the GPU, but the boost speed is 1582MHz on the Nvidia-made Founders Edition. That is about 51MHz higher than that of the Titan X. Other manufacturers may release 1080 Ti cards with a higher clock speed. Nvidia demonstrated during its presentation that the GPU can be overclocked up to 2GHz.
The memory of the GTX 1080 Ti is also faster than that of the Titan X. It has a throughput of 11Gbit/s, compared to 10Gbit/s with the Titan X and the GTX 1080. However, the memory size is slightly smaller at 11GB. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti also has slightly fewer render output units, which is 88 instead of the full 96. On paper, the new GTX 1080 Ti is faster than the GeForce Titan X due to the higher clock speeds of the GPU and the memory. August was released for more than 1300 euros.
Nvidia provides the Founders Edition of the GTX 1080 Ti with the same cooler as it uses on the GTX 1080 and 1070. However, an adjustment has been made to allow more air to be discharged at the rear: the DVI connection has been omitted. Three displayport 1.4 connections and an HDMI 2.0 port remain.
According to Nvidia, the GTX 1080 Ti will be available worldwide from the end of next week. In the US, the top model gets a suggested retail price from $ 699. Converted including VAT, that is about 800 euros. Nvidia has not announced an official euro price. However, the manufacturer has indicated that there will no longer be a price difference between the Founders Edition and the variants that other manufacturers make. With the GTX 1080, 1070 and 1060, the Founders Edition made by Nvidia had an additional cost.

At the same time as the introduction of the GTX 1080 Ti, Nvidia has announced that the price of the GTX 1080 will drop by a hundred dollars. The suggested retail price is now 499 instead of $599. It concerns the suggested retail price of the cheapest variants that other manufacturers make. At the time of writing, the cheapest GTX 1080 cards are in the Pricewatch for prices starting at around 625 euros. It is likely that this will decrease in the near future. This may also lower the price of the GTX 1070, although Nvidia has not given that card an official price reduction.
Nvidia has also announced that new variants of the GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 will come on the market with faster memory. The GTX 1080 will come with gddr5x at 11Gbit/s and with the GTX 1060 it will be gddr5 at 9Gbit/s. In both cases this is 1Gbit/s higher than the memory speed of the original models. The box of the video cards will indicate that they have faster memory. It is unknown what these cards with faster memory will cost.
