A top woman of Nvidia says in an explanation of the recent financial quarterly and annual figures that there will be no end to the shortages of the RTX30 cards for the time being. She speaks of an “incredible demand” and says the shortages will continue for at least another month.

Colette Kress, the chief financial officer at Nvidia, said in a verbal explanation of the shortfall results that it has been difficult for the entire RTX30 series to maintain inventory levels, according to a transcript of the oral explanation of the figures. Kress says that while supplies are ramping up, stocks are likely to remain low at least until the end of March. Like other manufacturers, Nvidia is dealing with the current scarcity in the video card market.

Nvidia’s annual revenue increased by 53 percent due to good results in the gaming and data center divisions in particular. The gaming division had a turnover of 7.76 billion dollars in the past fiscal year, according to the publication of the financial quarterly and annual figures. A year earlier, that still stood at $5.52 billion. This is an increase of 41 percent. Looking at the past quarter, Gaming division revenue came in at $2.5 billion, up 67 percent from the same quarter a year earlier. With that $2.5 billion, this division accounted for almost half of the total revenue for the past quarter. This division is responsible for revenue from GeForce graphics cards and GeForce Now. Among other things, the introduction of the Ampère GPUs in the RTX 3000 series will have made an important contribution.

The increase was even greater in the Data Center division. While revenue at this division was $2.98 billion a year ago and $2.93 billion the year before, revenue last year was $6.70 billion. That is an increase of 124 percent. The increase in this division is partly attributable to revenues from Mellanox, the US manufacturer of InfiniBand and Ethernet networking equipment that was acquired by Nvidia in 2019.

This effect can also be seen in the past, last quarter. The data center division’s revenue was $1.9 billion, an increase of 97 percent. In the third quarter, that turnover figure was virtually the same. Nvidia also cites the A100 accelerator for high performance computing as a factor for the good results in this segment.

Nvidia’s annual turnover amounted to 16.7 billion euros and net income to 4.3 billion dollars. The latter is a 55 percent increase from the year before last fiscal year. In the past quarter, total sales amounted to $5 billion; net income was $1.46 billion, up 53 percent from the same quarter a year earlier.
