Nvidia suspends planned GTC announcements
Nvidia is not going to announce any new products during its GPU Technology Conference. That conference will continue via live streams, but Nvidia says now is not the right time to make announcements of its own.
Nvidia was supposed to announce new products at its GTC event, but is now refraining from that. The video card maker reports that it is not the right time. The postponement of the announcements allows employees, partners and the media to focus on stopping the novel coronavirus, Nvidia said. The online event will continue with presentations from scientists and developers. It is not yet clear when Nvidia will make its own announcements.
It is not known what exactly Nvidia would announce during the GTC. According to rumors, the GPU maker wanted to provide information about its new GPU architecture, which is presumably called Ampere. Presumably, that architecture will first come to gpgpu cards for servers, before variants for gamers come on the market. The same happened with the Turing architecture, which was announced in August 2018. Current GeForce RTX cards have Turing GPUs.
