Nvidia Shows Ray Tracing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Watch Dogs: Legion
Nvidia will show trailers and screenshots of RTX ray tracing support in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Watch Dogs: Legion during gamescom in Cologne. A new zombie game from Tencent is also getting ray tracing.
Nvidia is using the fair to announce and show ray tracing support for several new games. It was already known that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare would get RTX effects, but Nvidia is now showing it in a trailer and screenshots. It is the first Call of Duty game to receive RTX support. The technology was already present in Battlefield 1 and V from competitor EA. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare uses ray tracing to render shadows softer and more realistic. The game will be released on October 25.
The announcement of RTX ray tracing for Watch Dogs: Legion from Ubisoft is new. The game was presented at E3 in June and now it’s clear that the PC version will get ray tracing. In this game, the technique is used to display reflections. The new Watch Dogs game will be released on March 6, 2020.
The Chinese Tencent has announced the game Synced: Off-Planet at gamescom. The PC version of that game will also get ray tracing support, Nvidia shows. The technique is used for both shadows and reflections. The multiplayer game is set in the future in an apocalyptic setting where players take on hordes of zombies.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will also receive ray tracing support. Nvidia shows a trailer and screenshots of that. The game uses ray tracing for reflections, making materials appear more real. The game is a successor to a 2004 RPG and should be released in the first quarter of next year.
Furthermore, Nvidia announces ray tracing support for Dying Light 2. There is no trailer with RTX effects of that zombie game yet, but Nvidia does show screenshots. The game is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020.
Nvidia also announced during gamescom that Minecraft is getting ray tracing. The video card manufacturer adds that technology to the game in collaboration with Microsoft by means of an update. It is not yet known when that update will be available.
Nvidia also reports that Cyberpunk 2077 will be shown at gamescom with RTX ray tracing. There are no videos or screenshots of this online yet, but visitors can see a gameplay demonstration at the fair.
