Nvidia Releases Beta of RTX Voice Noise Canceling App via Tensor Cores

Nvidia has released a beta version of the RTX Voice application. This app uses the Tensor cores in RTX GPUs to filter out background noise from microphone recordings. The program is compatible with multiple chat and streaming applications.

The GPU manufacturer reports in a blog post that the company has been working on RTX Voice for some time, but that they wanted to release the app as soon as possible because many people are currently working from home due to the corona pandemic. The application uses artificial intelligence through the Tensor cores in RTX video cards to filter background noise from the microphone in real time. This is purely about chat sounds. The program is therefore not suitable for denoising videos or music, for example.

RTX Voice works as a kind of ‘virtual device’. Users are recommended to manually select the app as the input and output device in the supported applications to take advantage of the noise reduction. Nvidia recommends that users only enable RTX Voice for speakers “if necessary.” Presumably, this function is not yet fully functional.

The app is currently only available in beta, so users may experience issues in some programs, such as Slack, Skype, WebEx, and Zoom. The app is also compatible with Google Chrome and Discord. Streaming apps such as OBS Studio, XSplit and Twitch Studio can also use the application.
