Nvidia releases Android 9 upgrade for Shield TV
Nvidia has started releasing its Shield Software Experience 8.0. This gives the Shield TV, which first appeared in 2015, an upgrade to Android 9. It is the fourth upgrade for the set-top box.
The new software version includes an improved Settings menu and setting up the box as a new device should be easier because account data and saved Wi-Fi passwords can be transferred from another Android device.
In the new software for the Shield TV, the volume range of headsets that are connected via USB and Bluetooth has been increased and users can set the fan in the system settings. There is a choice of a Cool and a Quiet mode. Also new is the option to disable the USB ports when the set-top box is in sleep mode.
Nvidia has published a list of all the innovations and improvements on its forum. There have been indications for some time that Nvidia will also come with new Shield TV hardware, but the manufacturer has not yet announced anything about it. A variant of the box with a revision of the Tegra X1-soc appeared last week at the American inspection agency FCC.
The Nvidia Shield TV first came out in 2015 when it came with Android 5.1. A new model followed in 2017, but the first version also continued to receive software updates and now also receives the upgrade to Android 9.
