Nvidia presents Project Holodeck VR experience with high-res graphics
Nvidia showcased Project Holodeck during its keynote at GTC 2017. That is a VR experience, in which several people can see the same high-res graphics and, moreover, have to experience the virtual objects as more realistic because virtual objects behave like real objects.
In the demonstration during the Nvidia keynote, four people were able to walk around and sit in a car. Since the avatar’s hands were gripping the wheel and not going through it, that, combined with haptic feedback, should make for a more realistic VR experience.
The car in the demonstration consisted of fifty million polygons, which should make it look realistic from all sides. All of this should lead to interaction feeling natural in a digital environment, concludes twitterer Andrew Beam, who created a video placed part of the demo.
It is unclear what hardware and software Nvidia used for the demonstration. The manufacturer will show Project Holodeck in real life for the first time in September. Nvidia has been working a lot on the development of virtual reality in recent years. For example, the company previously showed a 1700Hz screen for VR and makes graphic benchmarks for current VR systems.
