Nvidia has announced the GeForce RTX 2060 video card. It is the cheapest model so far in the 20xx series and it supports real-time ray tracing and dlss just like the more expensive models. The RTX 2060 will be released next week.

The announcement follows that of the RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti last fall. Nvidia says the release of the $349 video card should bring new techniques like real-time ray tracing within the reach of tens of millions of gamers. The other video cards in the RTX series are more expensive. Tickets based on the 2070 start at 500 euros.

The RTX 2060 has 1920 cudacores and 240 Tensor cores, which together can perform 52 teraflops of deep learning computations. Nvidia says nothing about the single precision calculations.

The RTX 2060 gets 6GB of gddr6 memory, compared to 8GB for the RTX 2070. Despite the lower specs, ray tracing also works on the new, cheaper graphics card. The anti-aliasing method that Nvidia introduced with the arrival of RTX, dlss, is also supported. Nvidia claims based on undisclosed benchmarks in a number of well-known games that the 2060 performs up to 60 percent better than the GTX 1060.

The 2060 will go on sale next week, both separately from various manufacturers and built-in. Nvidia is also going to release a Founders Edition. The Founders Edition costs 369 euros in Germany. A price in the Benelux is not known.
