Nvidia presents 3GB variant of GTX 1060 with 1152 cudacores

Nvidia has announced a 3GB variant of the GTX 1060, a cheaper variant of the video card that is already available with 6GB. The GPU also has slightly fewer cudacores; of the 1280, 1152 are active. The other specifications are the same and the suggested retail price is about 221 euros.

Before the introduction of the GTX 1060 6GB, there were already rumors that there would be a 3GB variant and now Nvidia has officially announced it. The cheaper model is based on the same GP106 GPU, but 128 cudacores are disabled, bringing the total to 1152. The clock speeds are the same; Nvidia mentions a base clock of 1506MHz and a boost clock of 1708MHz. The speed of the gddr5 memory, which runs at 2GHz, is also the same.

According to Nvidia, the GTX 1060 3GB will be priced around 221 euros. This makes the 3GB version about 58 euros cheaper than the 6GB model, which has a suggested retail price of 279 euros. Nvidia will not release its own Founders Edition of the 3GB version. Manufacturers are coming up with their own versions, which should be in stores in the coming weeks.

MSI announces five different versions of the GTX 1060 3GB. The fastest variant is the Gaming X version, with a Twinfrozr IV cooler and a boost clock of 1809MHz. EVGA makes a large version with two fans and a compact model with a single fan. Gigabyte also comes with two versions, with a single and a double cooler, and Zotac presents its 3GB model, about which information has already appeared.
