Nvidia launches RTX 3080 subscription for GeForce Now
Nvidia will introduce an RTX 3080 subscription for GeForce Now in December. With the new subscription, players get a virtual gaming PC with the graphics processing power of an Nvidia RTX 3080 at their disposal. The subscription costs 100 euros per six months.
Nvidia is coming with a third subscription form for its Geforce Now gaming service. In addition to the existing free and Priority plans, Nvidia will launch the RTX 3080 plan in December. Where the Priority subscription costs 50 euros per six months, the new RTX 3080 subscription will cost 100 euros per six months. According to Nvidia, members will have access to an ‘RTX 3080 Rig with RTX On’ for this. This allows games to be streamed in 1440p with 120Hz. Subscribers play on a system that offers 35 Tflops of computing power. The system contains a CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads and has 28GB DDR4-3200 memory available, in addition to a PCI-E 4.0 SSD.
Until now, Nvidia states that customers with a Priority subscription play on a system that has a speed that is comparable to a Geforce RTX 2080. The new RTX 3080 subscription should not only deliver higher quality images, but also the latency significantly increases, according to Nvidia. off. With the existing Priority subscription, the latency is about 80ms according to Nvidia when images are streamed at 60fps. With the new subscription, the latency is less than 60ms, even if the images are streamed at 120fps.
In addition, the new subscription uses Adaptive Sync, which should ensure smoother gameplay images. The new service obviously requires more bandwidth. Where Nvidia recommended at the introduction to have an internet subscription with a download speed of at least 25Mbit/s, this has already been increased to 35Mbit/s for the Priority subscription. Nvidia recommends a minimum of 40Mbit/s for the RTX 3080 subscription.
The 1440p and 120Hz promises are the maximum when played on Windows PCs and macOS computers. Nvidia will add support for Microsoft’s Edge browser. On Android phones with a 120Hz screen, the new plan lets you play at 120fps. On the Nvidia Shield, the new subscription offers support for 4k display with HDR and 7.1 surround sound.
If you’re looking for an RTX 3080 video card that’s already so hard to find, don’t worry: although the service is called RTX 3080, Nvidia doesn’t build real RTX 3080 cards in its data centers. Nvidia is working on renewing the data centers used for Geforce Now. It has christened the new lineup the Geforce Now Superpod, a system that is good for 39,200 Tflops, 11,477,760 CUDA cores and 8960 CPU cores. The company will set up these Superpods in thirty data centers. Four of those data centers are located in Western Europe. Because Nvidia also works with partners who host Geforce Now, the service is now available in eighty countries. Registration for the new RTX 3080 subscription is open immediately, although the service itself won’t be available until sometime in December.
