Nvidia launches GeForce Now program for routers
Nvidia is starting a certification program for routers that would be suitable for its game streaming service GeForce Now. The company partners with Asus, D-Link, Netgear, Razer, TP-Link and Ubiquiti Networks.
Routers qualify for a GeForce Now Recommended designation if they have a certain quality of service profile on board by default, Nvidia reports. When a user runs a GeForce Now game stream, the profile is activated and that traffic takes precedence over, say, video and audio streams.
Nvidia says it works with Asus, D-Link, Netgear, Razer, TP-Link and Ubiquiti Networks. Initially, the GeForce Now Recommended routers will be available in the US and Canada. In any case, AmpliFi Gamer’s Edition from Ubiquiti Networks already carries the GeForce Now predicate.
Back in 2015, Nvidia tried to gain influence in the router market with its ‘Shield Ready’ designation. Those were WiFi-ac and WiFi-n routers with 5GHz support. Nvidia coined the term to reassure consumers that their Shield device would work with its game streaming service, then called Grid.
