Nvidia introduces RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti for laptops starting at $799
Nvidia presents two new laptop video cards in the RTX 30 series. The RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti get 4GB GDDR6 and are equipped with GPUs with 2048 and 2560 CUDA cores, respectively. According to Nvidia, the GPUs are up to twice as fast as their predecessors.
Nvidia’s own benchmarks show that doubling the performance is achievable in games that support DLSS and where that feature is enabled. Nvidia shows scores from Outriders and Call of Duty: Warzone where an RTX 3050 Ti laptop with DLSS achieves about twice the frame rate as a laptop with a GTX 1650 Ti. That GPU of the previous generation does not have DLSS support. The benchmarks were run on a laptop with an Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB ram and at a 1080p resolution and DLSS Quality setting.
The RTX 3050 Ti has 25 percent more CUDA cores than the RTX 3050 and the other specifications are almost the same. Both new GPUs have a TGP between 35W and 80W. This points to potentially large performance differences between different laptops with the same GPUs. Manufacturers can set consumption based on the available cooling.
The RTX 3050 and RXT 3050 Ti are the cheapest laptop GPUs with ray tracing and DLSS support. According to Nvidia, models will be available starting at $ 799. The video card manufacturer shows, among other things, a Dell XPS 15 with RTX 3050 Ti and a Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro with RTX 3050.
Nvidia presents the video cards as successors to the GTX 1650 and 1650 Ti. These GPUs are currently in many laptops with prices between 700 and 1000 euros. The GTX 1650 GPUs have a maximum of 1024 CUDA cores and a TGP of 35 to 55W. Presumably, many laptop manufacturers will release new versions with the RTX 3050 GPUs in the coming months.
