Nvidia introduces RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti for laptops starting at $ 799
Nvidia presents two new laptop video cards in the RTX 30 series. The RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti get 4GB GDDR6 and are equipped with GPUs with 2048 and 2560 CUDA cores respectively. According to Nvidia, the GPUs are up to twice as fast as their predecessors.
Nvidia’s own benchmarks show that doubling the performance is achievable in games that support DLSS and have that feature enabled. Nvidia shows scores from Outriders and Call of Duty: Warzone where an RTX 3050 Ti laptop with DLSS achieves about twice the frame rate of a laptop with a GTX 1650 Ti. That GPU of the previous generation has no DLSS support. The benchmarks were run on a laptop with an Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB ram and at a 1080p resolution and DLSS Quality setting.
The RTX 3050 Ti has 25 percent more CUDA cores than the RTX 3050 and the rest of the specifications are almost the same. Both new GPUs have a tgp between 35W and 80W. This indicates possible major performance differences between different laptops with the same GPUs. Manufacturers can set consumption based on the available cooling.
The RTX 3050 and RXT 3050 Ti are the cheapest laptop GPUs with support for ray tracing and DLSS. According to Nvidia, models will be released starting at $ 799. The video card manufacturer shows, among other things, a Dell XPS 15 with RTX 3050 Ti and a Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Pro with RTX 3050.
Nvidia presents the video cards as successors to the GTX 1650 and 1650 Ti. Those GPUs are currently in numerous laptops with prices between 700 and 1000 euros. The GTX 1650 GPUs have a maximum of 1024 CUDA cores and a tgp of 35 to 55W. Many laptop manufacturers will probably release new versions with the RTX 3050 GPUs in the coming months.
