Nvidia introduces Quadro RTX cards for laptops and Studio ‘certification’
Nvidia announces new Quadro video cards for laptops based on the Turing architecture at Computex. In addition, there will be a ‘Studio’ certification for laptops that meet certain Nvidia requirements. The Creator Ready Driver is renamed Studio Driver.
The new workstation GPUs can be recognized by the Quadro RTX and Quadro T naming. The Quadro RTX GPUs are equipped with rt cores to speed up ray tracing, just like with GeForce RTX video cards. The T1000 and T2000 are equipped with a normal Turing GPU without that option. The Quadro P520 and P620 are new, but are still based on the previous Pascal architecture. Nvidia has not yet released precise specifications of the new Quadro GPUs, but the manufacturer does indicate that the RTX 5000 will be equipped with 16GB of memory.
Nvidia not only releases new GPUs, but also a new certification for ‘Studio’ laptops. According to Nvidia, there is a large group of users who do not work in a professional studio, but who do use their computer for creative purposes. These are, for example, influencers, freelancers, and small independent studios. According to Nvidia, those users benefit from a laptop with a GeForce or Quadro-RTX video card for those applications. To earn the certification, the laptop must also be equipped with an SSD with at least 512GB of space, 16GB or more RAM and an Intel Core i7 H processor. Acer, Asus, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, MSI and Razer are said to be about to introduce a total of 17 laptop models with the Studio certification.
The Creator Ready drivers that Nvidia introduced in March are rebranded as Studio drivers. That is in line with the name of the certification. The drivers will support Quadro and Titan graphics cards, as well as Pascal and Turing generation GTX and RTX cards.
