Nvidia improves VSR video upscaling technology and brings it to RTX 20 GPUs
Nvidia has released RTX Video Super Resolution 1.5, which should improve the video upscaling technique to display details better. VSR can also improve images at native resolution with the update. In addition, VSR is now also coming to RTX 20 GPUs, in addition to RTX 30 and 40 GPUs.
Video Super Resolution is a technique that can upscale and improve 2D videos such as YouTube videos. For example, VSR can upscale 1080p videos to 4k and remove artifacts. Nvidia says that VSR with the 1.5 update can better tell the difference between subtle details and compression artifacts. This should result in a sharper image than before.
The update also ensures that VSR can remove artifacts from images without having to upscale videos first. Previously, VSR only worked if the video was also upscaled. For example, with the 1.5 update, VSR can remove artifacts from a 1080p video viewed on a 1080p screen. VSR 1.5 is included in the GPU drivers and can be downloaded immediately. VSR works with Chrome, VLC and Edge, among others.
