Nvidia has sold 14 percent more GeForce GPUs
Nvidia sold 14 percent more GPUs for geForce cards in the quarter than in the same period last year. The GPU company expects further growth of the PC games market in the future. Nvidia also sold more Tegra chips for cars.
Despite the 14 percent growth in quarterly GeForce sales, total GPU sales grew less: by 5 percent to $898 million, or EUR 802 million. Although the group does not provide figures on this, this indicates that revenue from business Quadro cards and Tesla GPUs for high performance computing grew less rapidly.
While discussing quarterly earnings, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang expressed the expectation that the PC gaming market will see further growth, including the rise of virtual reality, according to Seeking Alpha’s transcript: To enjoy really good VR you need 90fps in stereo, unless you have something like a GTX 980 or Titan it’s hard to enjoy good VR.” In addition, UHD monitors would become cheaper and the arrival of Windows 10 with DirectX 12 would drive the growth.
Sales from Tegra processors increased by 4 percent year-on-year, mainly due to increased deliveries to automakers. Nvidia focuses less on mobile applications and, for example, stops its lte branch. A charge of USD 100 to 125 million has been recorded in the books for the dismantling of this Icera branch. Ultimately, Nvidia’s total quarterly revenue came in at $1.1 billion, 4 percent higher than last year. Quarterly profit fell 2 percent to $137 million.
