Nvidia virtually scraps the standard support for three- and four-way SLI in the GTX 1070 and 1080. The company is fully focused on the two-card sli. Only in benchmarks does the support remain from Nvidia itself, and the company promises to provide support to third parties.

The news is according to a statement that Nvidia Pc Perspective received. “With the GeForce 10 Series, we are investing heavily in two-way SLI with our new High Bandwidth bridge and Game Ready Driver SLI profiles. To ensure the best possible gaming experience on our GeForce 10 Series GPUs, we are only focusing on two-way sli and we will continue to include two-way sli profiles in our Game Ready Drivers,” the statement reads.

The drivers will continue to include only three and four card sli profiles along with dedicated benchmarking and overclocking applications such as 3D Mark Fire Strike, Unigine and Catzilla. In addition, Nvidia promises to help companies that make games and VR applications that can handle more than two cards, to ensure that the software runs smoothly.

When the GeForce GTX 1080 was introduced, there was only talk that Nvidia ‘didn’t recommend’ sli with three or four cards. Those who wanted to do this had to generate a signature for their video card and install software called ‘Enhusiast Key’ to unlock three-way and four-way SLI. As a plaster on the wound, Nvidia has abandoned this plan. So if you want to run the benchmark tools with more than two GeForce 10-series cards, you don’t need such an Enhusiast Key.

Pc Perspective got the statement after an unsuccessful attempt to get four GeForce GTX 1080 cards up and running. Only at LuxMark the site managed to put down a score, after which Pc Perspective Nvidia asked how the keys were.
