Technology manufacturer Nvidia has closed its forum after the company discovered that hackers had managed to gain access to member account information. The hackers were able to access email addresses and encrypted passwords.

Nvidia closed its forum last week after seeing “suspicious activity.” Investigation led to the conclusion that malicious parties had managed to break into the forum and gain access to personal data. It would only be email addresses, usernames, hashed passwords with random salt values, and profile information from the About Me section of accounts.

Nvidia emphasizes that no plain text passwords were stored and that personal data that is part of About Me was already publicly available on the forum. The manufacturer of GeForce cards and Tegra-socs further reports that the investigation is continuing and that all passwords will be reset once the forum comes back online. The company also advises users to change similar passwords with other services as a precaution. It is unknown how many users are involved and when the forum will be back online.

Update, Friday, 9.45 am: Nvidia informs users that the forum will be back online this week.
