Nvidia adds Quake II RTX support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution
Nvidia has released version 1.6 of a Quake II remaster with ray tracing. Quake II RTX will receive support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and HDR monitors via the update. The update is available on GitHub and Steam.
Nvidia publishes details about Quake II RTX v1.6.0 on GitHub. According to the company, it is a “major update with many improvements and new engine features.” The most notable of these is support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, a feature that renders games at a lower resolution and then deploys upscaling. That should result in a higher frame rate. FSR is a kind of counterpart to Nvidia’s DLSS, despite the technology behind it being different. Quake II RTX does not support DLSS at the time of writing.
In addition, update 1.6 adds several graphics updates and support for HDR monitors. The developer talks about full-screen blend effects and ‘enhanced laser beams’, among other things. Also, the performance should be better in certain situations and the loading times of the engine and playing fields should be shorter. A full changelog can be found on GitHub.
Quake II RTX v1.6.0 is available for download from Steam or from the GitHub repo. Windows and Linux versions of the game are available. Nvidia released the remaster of this classic shooter from 1997 in 2019. The free version of Quake II RTX contains the three levels from the shareware version. Users can also purchase the full game. This makes all levels from Quake II playable with ray tracing.
