Nvidia acquires company that makes software to manage NVMe network storage

Nvidia acquires Excelero. That is a provider of NVMe storage software for enterprise purposes and high-performance computing. It is not known what amount is involved in the acquisition.

Nvidia announces the acquisition of Excelero on its website. Post-acquisition Excelero is committed to improving Nvidia’s block storage support in its enterprise and hpc software stack. For example, Excelero’s software would be added to Nvidia’s Magnum IO stack for data center storage, CRN writes. Excelero’s software will also be used in Nvidia’s BlueField dpus. These are chips that are specifically intended for data processing.

Excelero’s primary product is NVMesh. That software is used to protect arrays of NVMe SSDs and use them as shared storage within a network. This allows enterprise customers to use such SSDs as central storage for systems for various purposes. The software works within a local network as well as in the cloud. For example, the software has been supported on Microsoft Azure since last year.

Nvidia continues to honor contracts by providing support to existing Excelero customers, the company reports. In the future, however, Excelero’s products will be incorporated into Nvidia’s platforms. In addition, future Excelero products will be withdrawn from the market, HPCWire writes. The Excelero brand name will also disappear and the company will not continue as a separate division. The staff of Excelero will start working at Nvidia. Excelero previously worked with Nvidia. The company did this through Mellanox, which was already acquired by the GPU maker in 2019.
