The number of daily users to whom Twitter can show ads grew 21 percent last quarter and now stands at 152 million. The company makes this known in its quarterly figures. Turnover also grew, but operating income fell.

Twitter no longer charges with active users, but with ‘monetizable’ daily users, users from whom it can earn money. In discussing its quarterly results, Twitter says its growth in the number of daily users it can show ads to has grown faster than in previous quarters. Of those 152 million, 31 million were in the US and 121 million in the rest of the world, with no further breakdown.

The reason for the growth, according to Twitter, is due to improvements to the service, including placing more relevant tweets with users in the timeline and in notifications. The company’s revenue came in at $1.01 billion, up around 10 percent from the same period a year earlier. Operating income was a quarter lower at $153 million.
