The number of people using Snapchat on a daily basis is up 22 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier. This increase was mainly due to an increase in the number of Android users, which outnumbered iOS users for the first time.

Parent company Snap writes that the number of daily active users increased in all regions where Snapchat now operates. The number of users also increased in Europe and North America. The number of users has increased not only compared to the first quarter of 2020, but also compared to the last quarter of 2020. CEO Evan Spiegel calls it the largest quarterly increase in three years.

Snap also reports that the number of daily users of AR tool Lens has increased by 40 percent. Snap does not mention how many daily users are involved. Snap does report that 260 million users used a Valentine’s Day Lens and 125 million users a Chinese New Year Lens.

In the first quarter of 2021, turnover increased by 66 percent to 640 million euros. It was not a profitable quarter; the net loss amounted to EUR 238 million. This is six percent less loss than a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, was a loss of EUR 1.42 million. A year earlier, this loss was still converted to 67.52 million euros.
