Number of logins via two-step authentication at DigiD is rising sharply
The number of logins with two-step authentication at DigiD rose sharply last year. Despite this, 85 percent of logins are still only with a username and password, according to recently published figures.

More than 70 percent of the accounts can do this, according to figures from the report Monitor Digital Government 2019. In total, about 260 million of the 309 million logins via DigiD happened with only a password. Nearly 37 million logins used SMS as the second factor. That is an increase of 28 percent compared to 2017. In addition, 10.9 million logins were made via the DigiD app that can display a code to log in.
Besides logging in with a password and logging in with a password and second factor, there is a third variant, which is called Substantial. The DigiD app can also be used, but users have identified themselves with their passport or ID card. This way of logging in is, for example, to access medical data. The number of logins with this was 186,000 times.
