The number of video views on Facebook has grown to 4 billion per day. That said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the presentation of the quarterly figures of the social networking site. The number of active users in the past month grew to 1.44 billion.

Three quarters of the video views on the social network come from mobile users. In September last year, Facebook reported that it showed more than 1 billion videos to users every day; now there are 4 billion. The network already counts a view if a user has only watched three seconds of a video.

The quarterly figures also show that the number of daily active users, ie the number of users who use Facebook at least once a day, increased on average to 936 million. That is 46 million more than in the previous quarter. By far the most daily active users use Facebook via a mobile device: almost 800 million.

The turnover for the first quarter of 2015 amounted to 3.5 billion dollars, converted to 3.3 billion euros. The turnover from mobile advertisements in particular grew. The company made $509 million in profit for the quarter.

Facebook introduced auto-playing videos in the timeline in 2013. Lately, the site has started to focus more on video; a few months ago, Facebook acquired another start-up that claims to have developed an efficient video compression algorithm.
