Number of daily active Facebook users grows to 1.18 billion
In September, an average of 1.18 billion users were active on the social network daily, according to Facebook. That is a growth of 17 percent compared to a year earlier. Virtually all use comes from mobile phones and tablets.
According to Facebook’s quarterly figures, in September an average of 1.09 billion users were active daily on the social network via their smartphone or tablet. That is a growth of 22 percent compared to last year. In total there are 1.79 billion people who use Facebook every month. That is an increase of 16 percent.
Mark Zuckerberg says the number of people using the feature to broadcast live video has quadrupled since May. According to the Facebook CEO, 100 million people now use Instagram Stories every day, a feature borrowed from Snapchat and introduced in August.
The social network saw its advertising revenue increase by 59 percent to $6.8 billion, or about 6.1 billion euros. The profit amounted to 2.4 billion dollars, in the comparable quarter last year the profit was considerably lower at 896 million euros. Facebook is getting more and more revenue from mobile ads. In the past quarter, that was 84 percent of total advertising revenue. A year earlier, it was 78 percent.
