Number of active Facebook users is falling again in Europe
The number of active European users of Facebook is decreasing again. This was also the case in 2018, but after that the number of users increased again. Facebook does earn more money per European user. Last quarter that was $17.08 per user.
The number of monthly active European Facebook users fell by 3 million to 420 million in the last quarter. The number of daily active users fell by 2 million to 307 million. In 2018 there was also a declining trend of European Facebook users, but at the end of that year this was converted into an increase again. Facebook gives no explanation for the new decrease.
As the number of active users in other parts of the world remained the same or increased, the total number of Facebook users continues to grow. There were about 1.9 billion daily active users in the second quarter of this year, 30 million more than a quarter earlier. The number of monthly active users increased by 42 million to almost 2.9 billion.
Although the number of active European users fell, Facebook made more money from users from that continent. Average revenue per user was $17.08, up from $15.34 in the previous quarter.
The figures published by Facebook in his quarterly results presentation are about users of the social network and not about other services such as Instagram and WhatsApp. Facebook’s quarterly revenue was $29.1 billion, up 56 percent from the same quarter last year. Net profit amounted to $ 10.4 billion, which is a doubling.
Facebook expects to be more affected by “platform and regulatory changes” in the second half of this year. The company refers, among other things, to iOS 14.5, the update with which Apple added anti-tracking functions. Earlier, Facebook said it was already working on “improvements of its advertising techniques” to enable targeted advertising with “less access to data”.
