For the second quarter in a row, the number of active Facebook users in Europe has decreased. There were 375 million Europeans monthly active on the social network, a million less than in the previous quarter. Globally, Facebook is still growing.

The decline in active Facebook users in Europe started in the first half of this year. This was evident from the quarterly figures for the second quarter in July. Now Facebook has presented the quarterly figures for the third quarter and it shows that the decline continues.

The number of daily active users fell less rapidly in Europe than in the previous quarter. In the past three months, 278 million Europeans were active on the social network every day, one million fewer than in the previous quarter. The decline in daily active European users was greater in the previous quarter, when the difference was 3 million.

Only in Europe has the growth of users stopped. In the United States, Asia and in the countries Facebook describes as ‘the rest of the world’, Facebook is still growing. In total, there are now more than 1.49 billion daily active users and 2.27 billion monthly active users. That is a growth of 9 and 10 percent respectively compared to the same period a year ago.

According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, more than 2 billion people use a Facebook service every day. This also includes WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. According to the CEO, the services together account for 2.6 billion monthly active users.

The social network derives almost all of its revenue from advertisements and now advertisements on smartphones account for 92 percent of the total revenue from advertisements. Last year it was 88 percent.

Facebook had revenue of $13.7 billion in the quarter. That is an increase of 33 percent compared to the same quarter last year. Profit came in at $5.1 billion, an increase of 9 percent.
