Number of active Facebook users falls again in Europe
The number of active European Facebook users is decreasing again. This was also the case in 2018, but after that the number of users increased again. Facebook makes more money per European user. Last quarter that was $ 17.08 per user.
The number of monthly active European Facebook users decreased by 3 million, reaching 420 million in the past quarter. The number of daily active users decreased by 2 million to 307 million. In 2018 there was also a declining trend of European Facebook users, but at the end of that year this was converted into an increase. Facebook gives no explanation for the new decline.
As the number of active users in other parts of the world remained the same or increased, the total number of Facebook users continues to grow. There were about 1.9 billion daily active users in the second quarter of this year, 30 million more than in the previous quarter. The number of monthly active users increased by 42 million to almost 2.9 billion.
Although the number of active European users decreased, Facebook made more money from users from that continent. Average revenue per user was $17.08, up from $15.34 in the previous quarter.
The figures that Facebook publishes in its quarterly figures presentation are about users of the social network and not about other services such as Instagram and WhatsApp. Facebook’s quarterly revenue was $29.1 billion, up 56 percent from the same quarter last year. Net profit came in at $10.4 billion, which is a doubling.
Facebook expects to be more affected by “platform and regulatory changes” in the second half of this year. The company is referring, among other things, to iOS 14.5, the update with which Apple added anti-tracking functions. Earlier, Facebook said it was working on “improvements of its advertising techniques” to enable targeted advertising with “less access to data”.
